Confusions in PTI as senior leader questions selection of Senate candidates
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser expressed doubts about the party’s list of candidates for the upcoming senate elections, questioning whether it had been approved by party founder Imran Khan. Qaiser made these statements during an interview with a private news channel on Friday.
When asked if he had confidence in the candidates chosen by Khan, Qaiser admitted that he was uncertain if Khan had given his endorsement. While he knows the names of the candidates, he cannot confirm if Khan had officially signed off on them.
Qaiser also emphasized that PTI leader Omer Sarfraz Cheema, who has made significant sacrifices for the party, deserves a senate ticket.
These remarks from Qaiser come at a time of internal discord among top party leaders over crucial decisions, such as forming an alliance with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) following the February 8 elections.
Initially, the party had agreed to join SIC to secure seats reserved for women and minorities. However, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat alleged that the party had suffered losses due to misguided decisions, such as withdrawing from an alliance with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Shirani (JUI-Shirani) and subsequently striking a deal with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Nazriati (PTI-N).
