IHC bars trial court from delivering final order in £190 million corruption case

IHC dismisses representation filed by five judges against new seniority list

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has extended a restraining order preventing the trial court from making a final decision in the £190 million corruption case involving Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

The decision was made by a division bench consisting of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb, who were considering the acquittal pleas filed by the couple.

During the hearing, the prosecutor mentioned that the trial was nearing its end, with the investigating officer undergoing cross-examination since October 20.

Imran Khan’s lawyer raised concerns that concluding the trial could harm their defense since this witness was the last one in the case.

On a separate note, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Usman Gul, explained that his client missed the previous hearing due to health issues.

The court emphasized the importance of timely proceedings and advised against unnecessary delays. After listening to the arguments, the court decided to adjourn the case for 10 days and extended the order preventing the trial court from delivering a final judgment until further notice.
