KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan questioned the performance of police regarding the kidnapping of Owais Ali Shah, during a hearing of the Karachi law and order case on Friday. Utv Pakistan Report
During the proceedings which were conducted at the Supreme Court Karachi registry, Justice Gulzar asked I.G. Sindh why the S.S.P. Clifton and other police officials were still in uniform? He also asked the I.G. Sindh why all roads weren’t closed when news of Owais Ali Shah’s kidnapping broke?
I.G. Sindh replied that due to negligence of duty, action was being carried out against S.P, A.S.P. and S.H.O . Clifton. He said that those police officials who knew about the kidnapping but did not inform him immediately, action was also being taken against them. I.G. Sindh informed the court that action was also being taken against S.P. Asad, who is also the head of Madadgar 15.
Additional A.I.G. Mushtaq Mehr informed the court that show cause notices had been issued to the concerned persons and action is being taken against them.
With regard to the Owais Ali Shah kidnapping case, the Chief Secretary submitted a report which stated that a high-level committee had been formed to take action against S.S.P. Mohammad Farooq. he informed that police had until July 19 to provide their recommendations.
I.G. Sindh further said in his statement that Madadgar 15’s recording system was out of order since several months and has not been repaired yet.
To that Justice Khilji Arif retorted by asking whether anything belonging to the state was functioning properly? He remarked that the recording system of an NGO was functioning properly but nothing belonging to the government was doing well.
Justice Khilji Arif remarked that the distance between the public and police had increased a lot. He stated further that people now feared going to police stations.
