KARACHI: Another woman was reportedly attacked by a sharp object in North Nazimabad area on Friday morning, becoming the 16th victim of a spate of such attacks which have spread terror across the metropolis over recent weeks.
According to police sources, the woman, a maid by profession, was walking by foot to work when a man wearing a helmet and riding a motorcycle attacked her and fled.
The medical report showed that the injury sustained by the woman was inflicted with a sharp object, but not a dagger/knife. The cut was half an inch long and bled, according to the report.
Hospital sources also said the incident did not appear to be an accident, because there were no other injuries on the woman’s body apart from the cut.
Police said they have launched a formal investigation into the alleged attack.
The attack comes after a hiatus of a few days, after 15 other women in the metropolis were assaulted — since September 25 when the first incident was reported — by a knife-wielding lone wolf.
The suspect, who has posed quite a challenge to the authorities, remains at large, evading arrest and baffling authorities after a fresh spate of knife attacks on women, concentrated mainly in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas.
