PanamaLeaks a natural phenomenon: president

KOTRI: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday said that the PanamaLeaks are a natural phenomenon and many big guns would be nabbed following the revelations made in these papers.

He said that a kind of curse appeared on the faces of the corrupt. He underlined the need to uproot corrupt elements from the system in order to ensure rapid development and progress in the country.

The president said that the journey of national progress was satisfactory till the 1970s but afterwards the pace of development was stunted because of corruption.

The president observed that the country had no shortage of talented and capable people but corruption and favoritism affected our performance.

He was addressing a ceremony of the Kotri Association of Trade and Industry here.

Sindh Minister for Industry Muhammad Ali Malkani and others were also present on the occasion, said a press release.

President Mamnoon said that Pakistan offered tremendous investment opportunities and the investors should benefit form it.

He stressed that it was also the responsibility of the trade organisations to guide the investors.

“In this way our products would also meet the standard requirement for exports and we would be able to get success in international markets,” he added.

President Mamnoon called upon the traders and industrialists to explore new markets for enhancing the country’s exports so that foreign exchange could further increase.  He also called for making concerted efforts to attain the national goal of collective development.

The president said that the Gwadar deep seaport would be functional this year and a modern airport would also be built there.

He lamented that no other water reservoirs were constructed after the issue of Kalabagh Dam became contentious which rendered a great loss to the country adding now these mistakes had been rectified and new dams were being constructed.

The president emphasised that the process of eradicating the scourge of terrorism was continuing with full political commitment which was producing positive results and providing an environment conducive for business and industrial activities.

Owing to certain problems in the past, he said that the business environment in the country was affected and the national economy suffered but the government devised a comprehensive strategy and took bold steps and as a result the curse of terrorism had been controlled to a great extent.

The president said that the National Action Plan was formulated with the backing of the whole nation which was being implemented effectively.

He said it was a big success for the government that entrepreneurs and traders were satisfied with the law and order situation in the country.

The president said that work on power generation projects was continuing under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and hoped that the issue of loadshedding would be resolved by the year 2018. He said that industrial zone of Kotri was playing an important role in national progress.

He commended the industrial areas of Kotri which were generating electricity and assured of his support in resolving the cost of electricity issues with Nepra.

On the occasion, the business community of Kotri apprised the president about their issues and he assured them of his cooperation in resolving their issues.  The president also distributed awards among industrialists and prominent personalities.
