People’s trust in judiciary to erode with cherry-picked judges: Hafiz Naeem
In Karachi, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman accused the federal government of selectively choosing judges for the Supreme Court.
During a press conference, Rehman mentioned that Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa should clarify his stance on the age of judges. He expressed concern that if judges were hand-picked, it would undermine people’s trust in the judiciary.
Rehman added, “I hope the CJP will openly declare that he is not seeking an extension of his tenure.”
He warned the government against interfering in judicial matters and advised against making changes to the constitution that was agreed upon by all.
Rehman called on the government to address the recent comments made by Salman Akram Raja, the newly appointed Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who revealed that his family was receiving threats from unknown individuals.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony between the people and the armed forces, especially in the deteriorating situation in the southern districts of KP. Rehman urged security agencies and the government to address this concern.
He noted that many people were joining JI due to the hope they saw in the party and demanded a reduction in power bills due to increasing unemployment rates.
