PTI challenges 26th constitutional amendment in SC

SC orders trial courts to conclude May 9 cases in four months

Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday challenging the 26th constitutional amendment. Sameer Khosa represented PTI in the SC for this matter.

The petition argues that Parliament does not have the authority to change the fundamental aspects of the constitution. It emphasizes that the independence of the judiciary is a crucial part of the constitution.

The petition also states that no amendment should undermine the judiciary’s freedom and that the 26th amendment goes against the constitution’s principle of power distribution.

Furthermore, the petition requests that all actions taken under the 26th constitutional amendment be invalidated.

It also asks for the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) to be prohibited from appointing judges until a final decision is made regarding the amendment.
