PTI seeks more time from ECP in intra-party poll case

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar requested more time for arguments from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the intra-party election case during a hearing on Tuesday.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja led a five-member bench that resumed the long-standing case.

Both Barrister Gohar and petitioner Akbar S. Babar were present at the hearing. When asked by the CEC why arguments were not being presented as scheduled, Barrister Gohar explained that he had provided details of the Lahore High Court’s directives and needed more time to prepare his arguments due to missing key documents.

CEC Raja reminded him that while the High Court had restricted the ECP from issuing a verdict, it had not stopped the proceedings.

He cautioned Gohar to be fully prepared for the next hearing. The ECP has adjourned the hearing until April 22, 2025. The intra-party election case has been ongoing since March 2024 and has had eight hearings so far.
