PTI tried to make Aseefa’s victory ‘controversial’: Saeed Ghani
KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Saeed Ghani, expressed his views on the controversy surrounding the victory of President Asif Ali Zardari’s daughter, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, in NA-207.
Ghani addressed the media in Karachi, stating that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) attempted to create controversy around Aseefa’s win, but their efforts would be futile.
Ghani emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has consistently secured victory in the National Assembly seat in the Nawabshah constituency by a significant margin. He highlighted that even in 2018, amidst the PTI’s rise to power, the PPP maintained a strong lead in the NA seat from Nawabshah.
Aseefa was elected as a member of the National Assembly (MNA) in the Shaheed Benazirabad (formerly Nawabshah-I) constituency on March 29. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) confirmed her election as an NA lawmaker without any contest.
It is important to note that Aseefa, along with 11 other candidates, filed their nomination papers for the by-poll on the seat vacated by President Zardari.
The Returning Officer, Sher Ali Jamali, disclosed that nomination papers of seven independent candidates were rejected, and the PTI independent candidate, Sardar Sher Muhammad, who came second in the general election, did not appeal against the rejection of his nomination papers.
