WB approves 240mn dollars to support water, sanitation services

The World Bank has approved $240 million in financing for the Second Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP-2) to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene services in Karachi.
This project aims to benefit women, youth, and people living in informal settlements. It will expand investments in water treatment, distribution, and sewer network rehabilitation.
The goal is to provide safe drinking water and sanitation services to over half a million people in Karachi. The long-term benefits include reduced costs, time savings, and improved health.
The project will also focus on gender equality by hiring more women in technical and leadership roles. By 2030, nearly 16 million people will have access to safe water, and 7.5 million people will have improved sanitation services.
The project is part of a larger initiative to provide WASH services to 33.5 million people in Pakistan by 2035.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will co-finance the project with $240 million, along with government and private sector contributions. This project is part of a regional effort to provide WASH services to 100 million people in South Asia by 2035.
