Balochistan assembly session underway to pick new Chief Minister

QUETTA: Balochistan assembly session is underway in Quetta on Saturday to choose the new Chief Minister.

A one-to-one contest will occur between the nominated candidate of PML-N dissidents and PML-Q legislators, former Balochistan Assembly deputy speaker Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Liaquat Aga after Abdul Raheem Ziarat Vaal left the race.

The session of the house is being headed by speaker Raheela Durrani. Polling is currently being held in the assembly to select the new CM for which more than 50 members are present.

Strict security arrangements have been for today’s session. All the roads linking to Balochistan assembly have been sealed whereas the traffic police has appealed the citizens to avoid travelling on Zarghoon road and use alternate routes instead from 9am to 9pm.

The opposition in the Balochistan Assembly has announced full support to newly nominated Chief Minister, Abdul Quddus Bizenjo after Sanaullah Zehri resigned due to lawmakers’ no-confidence motion.

Bizenjo is likely to receive more than 40 votes. However; National Party has refused to support the nominated candidates.

The oath-taking ceremony will probably be held in the evening. Balochistan governor will administer oath to the elected Chief Minister.
