QUETTA: A meeting of the parliamentary committee chaired by former Balochistan chief minister Sanaullah Khan Zehri to decide on the candidate for the caretaker Balochistan chief minister (CM).
No member of the government is attending the session of the parliamentary committee.
The six-member parliamentary committee comprising of government representatives Sarfraz Chakar Domki, Tahir Mahmood Khan, Amanullah Notezai and opposition members include Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, Dr Abdul Maalik Baloch, and Liaquat Agha will decide on the final candidate.
The former government had suggested the names of Sardar Shoukat Popalzai and Alauddin Marri for the post of caretaker CM while the former opposition proposed the names of Mohammad Aslam Bhutani and Ashraf Jahangir Qazi.
Talking to the media before the parliamentary media Abdul Malik Baloch said, the session regarding caretaker CM will take place.
He added, if the government does now show up, the matter of the caretaker CM will be forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Last night, former chief minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo had said that he would not attend the meeting, citing the names suggested by the opposition for the parliamentary committee as “controversial”.
Bizenjo further added, the opposition had not consulted the rest of the parties in the opposition before submitting the candidates for the committee.
If the parliamentary committee fails to reach consensus over a candidate for the province’s interim chief minister, the matter would then be taken up the ECP.
