Caretaker federal cabinet takes oath

ISLAMABAD: A six-member caretaker federal cabinet has taken oath during a ceremony in Islamabad today (Tuesday).

According to details, President Mamnoon Hussain administered oath to the members of the cabinet that also include two females at President House. Ali Zafar will be Law Minister, Shamshad Akhtar will control Finance Ministry while Abdullah Hussain has become Foreign Minsiter.

Caretaker PM Nasir-ul-Mulk was also present on the occasion.

In a brief chat with the APP, Dr Shamshad Akhtar, who is likely to head the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs Division, Planning and Development said her priority would be to stabilise the economic situation.

Barrister Syed Ali Zafar said his first priority would be to help the Election Commission of Pakistan in smooth conduct of the general election in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Mrs Roshan Khurshid Barocha said the issue of women and human rights was very close to her heart and she would like to play her part in resolving their issues.

Abdullah Hussain Haroon who would be heading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said he would be picking up the threads after getting an initial briefing at the Foreign Office. To a question, he said he has many fresh ideas for boosting the country’s image, however these measures would be taken up under the guidance of the Prime Minister.

To a question about relations with the United States of America, Haroon, who has served the country as its ambassador at the United Nations said, President Donald Trump was not a typical US President and Pakistan needed to understand how to interact with him. He said Pakistan needed to have a strong, united and a cohesive policy to address all issues.

Earlier on May 31, National Assembly stood dissolved at 12:00midnight after completing its five-year constitutional ter afterwhich, former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice (retd) Nasir ul Mulk sworn in as caretaker PM of Pakistan.

Informally talking to media, Nasir-ul-Mulk said that the general polls will be conducted on time at any cost. He also announced to minimize the membership of cabinet.

It is worth mentioning here that Nasir ul Mulk’s name was announced at a joint presser by PM Abbasi and Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah on May 28. Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq was also present along with some ministers.
