KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday directed Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) A. D. Khawaja to remove all the traffic blockades as per police rules.
The CJP conducted hearing of the VVIP movement suo motu notice case in Supreme Court Karachi registry. During the hearing, the CJP questioned Sindh IG: “Mr Khawaja! What are the rights of citizens?”
“People have to undergo immense difficulties when roads are closed and blocked for traffic,” he said.
The IG responded that laws exist for VVIP movement therefore; arrangements are made in this regard. “Roads are blocked nowhere, only the traffic is stopped for two minutes,” he answered.
The Chief Justice maintained that he is also a VIP but the traffic is never shut for him. He directed the Sindh IG to submit statement that the roads will not be blocked permanently.
“Remove all the traffic blockades as per police rules and save the people from any difficulty,” said the CJP.
The case was winded up after Sindh IG assured of complying with the court orders.
