Committee formed to probe killing of Chichawatni girl after rape

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday formed a committee to probe the alleged rape of a minor girl before she was set alight in Chichawatni.

The committee will be led by Sheikhupura regional police officer (RPO).

An eight-year-old girl with mental disabilities succumbed to her wounds at the Jinnah Hospital on Tuesday after being burnt alive and allegedly raped in Chichawatni.

Eight-year-old Noor Fatima went missing on Monday after she left her home to buy sweets from a nearby shop. Three hours later, the family found the girl with 90 percent of her body burnt.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital from where she was referred to the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore where she succumbed to her wounds on Tuesday.

The post-mortem report confirmed that eight-year-old Noor Fatima was raped before being burnt. The minor girl was then laid to rest amid tears and wails.

A complete shutter-down strike was observed by Anjuman-e-Tajran in Chichawatni against the brutal incident.

Police had arrested a suspect, identified as Imdad. Meanwhile, the father of the deceased had appealed to the chief minister and Chief Justice of Pakistan to provide him justice.
