Court adjourns hearing of NAB references against Sharif family till Mar 29

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Wednesday has adjourned hearing of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Avenfield reference against Sharif family till March 29.

During the proceedings headed by Muhammad Bashir, former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar appeared before the court.

Verdict over Nawaz Sharif’s appeal was likely to be announced today.

Earlier, the court reserved verdict on plea of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PMLN) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif seeking to determine which documents presented by Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) head Wajid Zia could be determined as admissible evidence in Avenfield case.

In the onset, Wajid Zia—who is also serving as additional director of the Federal Investigation Agency at present—resumed recording his statement and submitted additional documents.

Documents pertaining to Flagship reference and reply of United Arab Emirates’ embassy were also submitted today. Zia submitted several other documents, including Nawaz s employment contract as well as the Jabal Ali Free Zone Authority (Jafza) certificate for the company.

Legal counsels of Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Shairf—during hearing—raised objections on documented submitted by JIT head Wajid Zia and sought clarity on what all can Zia submit in the accountability court.

Maryam’s counsel also inquired absence of page number 235, 243 and additional eight pages of Volume-3 from the copies provided.
