Islamabad: The Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) rejected a request from 15 independent senators on Wednesday to join the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), the upper house of the parliament.
According to the ECP decision, the Senate Secretariat also decided not to allow independent senators to merge with PMLN.
After the latest development, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) became the largest party in the Senate, with 20 members. PMLN has fallen to second place with 17 members, while Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ranked third with 12 senators.
The number of independent senators is 33.
It should be mentioned here that the 15 members supported by PMLN have decided to participate in the financial bench of the upper house of the parliament.
