Heavy rain inundates twin cities

ISLAMABAD Heavy rain lashed Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjacent areas on Monday night.

Continuous downpour in different areas inundated roads and streets in the twin cities and commuters faced immense difficulties while trying to carry on with their routines.

Several areas in Rawalpindi such as Sadiqabad, Shamsabad, Committee Chowk and Javed Colony submerged in water. The rainwater also entered in the houses causing trouble for the residents.

According to Flood Control Unit, 202 milimetre of rain was recorded so far in the twin cities. Sources informed that water level in Nullah Lai has rose to 14 feet as a result Civil Defence, Rescue 1122, Wasa and other departments have been directed to remain alert.

According to Met Office, rain-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) accompanied by gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Hazara, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir.

Rain-thundershower with gusty winds is expected at isolated places in Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, D.I.Khan, Zhob, Mirpurkhas, Bahawalpur divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan. Hot and very humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan. Monsoon currents are continuously penetrating upper parts of the country and likely to strengthen further.
