ISLAMABAD: Issuing detailed verdict in Iftikhar Chaudhry bullet-proof car retention case, Lahore High Court has ruled that many retired judges of apex judiciary are enjoying more perks than they are entitled to under the Judges Pension Order, 1997.
High Court Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kyani has issues a 31-page detailed verdict of the case in which he has remarked that many retired judges including Iftikhar Chaudhry are not acting according to law. A judge can only keep a driver and guard with him after retirement. But the former ChiefJustice of Pakistan has one Head Constable, two Sub-inspectors, nine Constables and two drivers at his disposal currently.
According to the verdict, even the Prime Minister of Pakistan does not have the authority to bestow additional perks upon any judge more than given by the Pension Order.
On March 9, the court had ruled that Iftikhar Chaudhry was not eligible to keep official bullet-proof car.
