LAHORE: Mobile phone service, which was suspended in Lahore as a security measure for Nawaz Sharif’s arrival, was restored Friday night.

Earlier, the Punjab chief secretary requested the Ministry of Interior to suspend mobile service around Lahore Airport, Walled City area, Shahdara, Barki and Nawab Town area.

Uniformed men escorted the Sharifs, who were sentenced in absentia on corruption charges last week, from their airplane after it touched down in the central city of Lahore at around 08:45 pm.

Nawaz returned from Britain after an anti-corruption court handed him a 10-year jail term and sentenced his daughter and political heir to seven years in prison for failing to prove that money used to buy luxury flats in London in the 1990s was not ill-gotten.
