KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement will hold protest demonstrations outside the offices of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today (Thursday).
MQM decided to stage protests outside the ECP offices for not holding elections for mayors and district chairmen in Sindh.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, Karachi’s nominated mayor Wasim Akhtar announced MQM’s intentions to protest all over the city’s Election Commission offices on today and asked as to why the Election Commission remembered all of a sudden on June 14 that five of their members were about to retire?
“This time, the excuse to not hand over authority and powers to representatives of local bodies is even more lame,” he said.
Wasim Akhtar termed the electoral body’s steps as anti-Sindh and anti-Karachi, stating MQM’s resolve to work with PTI to solve the problems of the city.
PTI’s Firdous Shameem Naqvi also spoke and stated that the public were asking them at this stage as to who will solve their problems? He called for the elections for mayor, deputy mayor and chairman to be held immediately.
