LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday declared former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi eligible to contest election from NA-57 Murree constituency in General Election 2018.
The Lahore High Court has dismissed the verdict of the Appellate tribunal accepting the plea submitted by Abbasi to challenge his disqualification verdict from Murree’s NA-57 constituency.
Earlier, an appellate tribunal had disqualified Abbasi for life from contesting election from NA-57.
Abbasi’s lawyer Khawaja Tariq Raheem had filed the petition requesting the court to annul the verdict of appellate tribunal.
The plea maintained that the tribunal exceeded its authority as it does not possess any right to award lifetime disqualification to any person.
It is pertinent to mention here that an appellate tribunal on Wednesday disqualified former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for life from contesting election from NA-57 Murree. The eight-page verdict issued by Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi declared that Abbasi is not eligible to become Member of
Parliament under Article 62 (1) (F) of the constitution as he is not Sadiq and Amin.
The verdict stated that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi declared the value of his F-7/2 house in Islamabad as Rs300,000 in order to obtain a loan of Rs25 million.
