ISLAMABAD Ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday has told accountability court that it’s not easy to find new lawyer after Khawaja Harris announced to withdraw from representing him in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.
During the hearing, Justice Mohammad Bashir asked Nawaz whether he has hired new lawyer over which, the ex-PM said that he has only talked to Khawaja Harris as he has struggled for nine months for this case.
Nawaz Sharif said that we appeared in more than hundred hearings of the court on regular basis. He also said we have never sought exemption from court except for going abroad over which, the judge said that it’s not true.
Justice Bashir further told that the request of Khawaja Harris has not been accepted so far.
Earlier, in a surprising move, defence lawyer Khawaja Harris had excused himself from representing Nawaz Sharif in NAB references, saying that Supreme Court did not accept his stance of completing the trial in six weeks.
I was being dictated even after judicial hours, he added.
He also expressed reservations over holding court proceedings on Saturdays and Sundays, saying that he cannot work under such circumstances.
It is to be mentioned here that Khawaja Harris was representing Nawaz Sharif in references pertaining to Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Flagship Investment Ltd and Avenfield properties. The hearings of these cases have entered final phase as all the witnesses have recorded their statements.
