ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to the United States Ali Jahangir Siddiqui is likely to leave for Washington tonight.

Ali Jahangir Siddiqui will take charge of new responsibilities from May 28.

Sources said that the Ambassador-designate will travel on his new diplomatic passport.

Pakistan’s outgoing Ambassador to US Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry will reach Islamabad on May 29.

On March 8, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had given approval for the appointment of Siddiqui as new Ambassador to the US.

Ali Jahangir Siddiqui is the son of Special Assistant to Prime Minister Jahangir Siddiqui and had also served as director of PM Abbasi-owned private airline Air Blue.

It is pertinent here to mention that the association of former diplomats had opposed the appointment of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui.
