MULTAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday hailed the NAB court judgement that sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in prison.

In an exlusive talk with Dunya News, Qureshi referred to the verdict as a”major development” in the fight against corruption. “No one is above the law. Today’s verdict bears testimony to that,” he said.

“Anyone who is involved in money laundering and amassed wealth through illegal means has to face the music. (The) judgement paves the way for rule of law to begin with.”

Qureshi, who served as Pakistan’s foreign minister from 2008-2011, ruled out the court proceedings as politically motivated and a judicial witch-hunt.

“The (Sharif) family members weren’t tried in a case of political nature. They have been punished for their involvement in money laundering. They cannot become political martyrs.

“If they boycott elections it will be their own undoing.”
