LAHORE/FAISALABAD/D.I.KHAN: Rainfall, thunder and windstorms claimed ten lives across various cities in the country, among them seven being workers of the Orange line project in Lahore.

Seven labourers in Lahore, two people in Dera Ismail Khan and a female in Faisalabad died due to rain, thunder and windstorms across the country. In Lahore, the wall of an under-construction godown fell on a group of sleeping labourers. Seven labourers died as a result of the wall collapse and four were injured. The victims were all working on the Orange train project.

According to rescue officials, the labourers had camped near a godown and were sleeping when rain and windstorm caused the wall of the warehouse to collapse on them. Two workers who were trapped under the rubble, died on the spot while five succumbed to their wounds in the hospital. As per rescue officials, four workers were injured in the incident, who were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.

The three dead workers have been identified as Irfan, Usman and Maqbool. The deceased labourers are from Mianwali and Rahim Yar Khan.

In Faisalabad’s Ibn-e-Maryam Colony, the roof of a house collapsed, causing the death of an eight-year old girl while one other person was injured. The collapse of the roof had been brought about by rain.
