ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Friday has resumed hearing of the contempt case against Minister of State for Interior Affairs Talal Chaudry.
Talal Chaudhry’s counsel Kamran Murtaza cross-examined the statement of witness Haji Adam and asked whether Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had launched any action on his client’s material before March.
The witness responded negatively and told that the content was aired on all the channels.
The material was verified from two television channels, he added.
On March 15, SC had indicted Talal Chaudhry in contempt of court. The court had also handed over the charge sheet to the PML-N leader and directed him to sign it.
On February 2, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on took a suo motu notice of Talal Chaudhry’s “contemptuous speeches” against judiciary.
The notice was taken after the minister denigrated Panama Case verdict on myriad occasions. While equating judges with idols in Jaranwala rally in January, Talal urged PML-N quaid for life Nawaz Sharif to oust them from courts.
He said there was no hope of justice till these judges were sitting in the courts.
