Senate election: Two from SIC, five from PML-N elected unopposed in Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The Upper House approved a motion on Wednesday to form the Senate Finance Committee with members from the proposed list.

Seven candidates from Punjab have been elected unopposed in the Senate election. Five of these successful candidates belong to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while the remaining two are from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

The PML-N candidates who secured their seats without opposition are Pervaiz Rasheed, Nasir Mehmood, Ahad Cheema, Talal Chaudhry, and Mohsin Naqvi, who is supported by the coalition government. Similarly, Hamid Khan and Raja Nasir Abbas from the SIC also emerged victorious without facing any competition.

These seven candidates achieved their victories after Waleed Iqbal, Shhahzad Waseem, Ijaz Minhas, Musadik Malik, and Umar Cheema withdrew their nomination papers for the Senate election. This outcome solidifies the representation of Punjab in the Senate, with a clear majority from the PML-N and SIC.
