ISLAMABAD: Interim federal government on Saturday forwarded a summary to President Mamnoon Hussain aimed at seeking extension in Tax Amnesty Scheme by 31 to 50 days.

Sources say the decision has been taken to encourage more filers as applicants declaring their assets rose exorbitantly in last week of scheme. The expiry date of the scheme was today i-e June 30, which according to law is not extendable.

As per details, nearly 5000 people filed returns declaring their foreign assets whereas they also deposited Rs80 bn in terms of taxes in national exchequer.

Tax Amnesty Scheme proved to be a success; it can be called a landmark of PML-N’s government which it initiated at the last moment of its period. According to Dunya News sources, till this time, the government has gained more than Rs100 billion. This scheme indeed encouraged many to become the part of tax net and assisted the government in increasing revenue. June 30, today, was the last date and keeping in view the amount collected, it can be called a prolific project.
