ISLAMABAD: In the contempt of court case against Minister of State for Interior affairs Talal Chaudhry, the Court has insisted on hearing the full speech of the accused and reaching logical conclusion as per law, while his lawyer has requested the court not to be too harsh.
In the hearing, witness of the accused, DG Operations PEMRA Haji Adam recorded his statement. Upon question from lawyer of the accused, Haji Adam told the Court that PEMRA had not taken any action on Talal Chaudhry’s speech before the Court took notice. He further revealed that the regulating body does not have a mechanism to judge the originality of a clip, especially if it is a politician whose opponents could be running a propaganda campaign against him.
Lawyer of Talal Chaudhry admitted that defending contempt case is a difficult job. In response, Justice Ejaz Afzal asked to him perform his duties with diligence and let the law take its due course. Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that although undesirable, listening to the full content of the speech is their duty to dispense justice.
