ECP denies Achakzai’s request to delay presidential election

ECP to hear plea filed by new KP Assembly members tomorrow

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has denied Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s request to postpone the upcoming presidential election and has opted to proceed with the scheduled election.

The election for the 14th President is slated to occur today (Saturday) as planned, according to the ECP. Achakzai, the presidential candidate nominated by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), had submitted a request to the ECP seeking a delay in the election due to vacant reserve seats in the National and provincial assemblies.

Despite his plea, the ECP remains resolute in its decision to move forward with the election. Former president Asif Ali Zardari and Mahmood Khan Achakzai are the two candidates vying for the presidential seat.
