IHC suspends PTI founder, Bushra Bibi’s sentence in toshakhana case

IHC seeks 'proof' of retention of cipher by former PM

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) made a significant decision on Monday by suspending the sentence given to the PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case.

During a hearing conducted by a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq stated that the appeal against the sentence would be scheduled for a hearing after Eidul Fitr.

It is worth noting that the PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were initially sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in the Toshakhana case. Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir, who announced the decision in the Toshakhana reference at Adiala jail, also disqualified both individuals from holding any public office for a period of 10 years.

In a related development, the Islamabad High Court had previously established a special bench in February to address the appeals filed by the PTI founder in the Toshakhana and cipher cases. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan were assigned to preside over these cases. The registrar of the high court had set a date for the hearing of the PTI founder’s pleas.
