IHC permits meeting between PTI founder, Bushra Bibi on Eid

IHC rejects FIA employees' petition against extension in job contract - UTV Pakistan

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued an order for authorities to permit the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to meet his wife, Bushra Bibi, on Eidul Fitr. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb made this ruling during a hearing regarding the transfer of Bushra Bibi from Bani Gala to Adiala Jail and the arrangement of a meeting with the PTI founder. The court also mandated that the couple be allowed to meet once a week.

During the proceedings, the court raised concerns about the government designating someone’s private property as a sub-jail. The state counsel mentioned that a report had been prepared following a visit to Bani Gala sub-jail by the director of law, as per the court’s instructions. The court requested a copy of the report to be provided to the petitioner and inquired about the visiting officer’s satisfaction with the facilities at Bani Gala.

Justice Aurangzeb expressed dissatisfaction with the report from the Adiala Jail administration and chief commissioner for failing to transfer Bushra Bibi to Adiala Jail and denying the meeting, labeling it as a political maneuver. The judge pointed out that despite claims of prison overcrowding, 141 women were detained in Adiala Jail after Bushra Bibi’s sentencing on January 31, raising doubts about the rationale for not transferring her.

The judge criticized the state for undermining the rule of law and instructed the counsel to continue presenting arguments on the next scheduled date, adjourning the hearing indefinitely.
