In a proactive effort to combat environmental pollution, particularly smog, the Punjab Government has taken a decisive step to ban plastic bags across the province.

The decision was reached during a high-level meeting focused on smog reduction, spearheaded by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. The meeting meticulously assessed the performance of various departments and stakeholders involved in tackling air pollution.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb declared that the prohibition of plastic bags would come into effect on June 6 in Punjab. She underscored the importance of launching public awareness campaigns to educate the populace about initiatives aimed at eradicating smog.

Furthermore, Marriyum Aurangzeb disclosed plans to provide subsidies for the local production of solar panels in Punjab, commending the progress made in this sector. She revealed that all government buildings would be outfitted with solar panels as part of the Solar program.

Drawing attention to the detrimental impact of vehicle emissions on exacerbating smog, the provincial minister stressed the significance of mandating fitness certificates and annual inspections for all vehicles to effectively combat air pollution.

This announcement underscores the Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment to addressing environmental concerns and fostering sustainable practices for a cleaner and healthier environment.
