Legal experts plead for suo moto of IHC judges’ complaint

Legal experts plead for suo moto of IHC judges' complaint - UTV Pakistan

Over 300 lawyers in Pakistan have united in a call to action, urging the Supreme Court to investigate allegations brought forth by six judges of the Islamabad High Court. These judges have raised concerns that security agencies are attempting to manipulate court decisions through unethical means.

The judges at the center of this controversy include Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz.

In response to these serious allegations, the government has appointed retired Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani to conduct an investigation into the matter.

The legal community stands firmly behind the judges and is urging the Supreme Court to intervene in accordance with Article 184(3) of the Constitution. Notably, among those advocating for this cause is Saqib Jillani, the son of Justice Jillani.

These lawyers are supporting resolutions passed by various bar associations, which emphasize the importance of upholding judicial independence, expressing solidarity with the judges, and demanding appropriate action. It is worth mentioning that former IHC judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui also raised similar concerns and was subsequently removed from his position.

The legal community is now calling upon the Pakistan Bar Council and all bar associations to convene and collectively determine the next course of action. They stress the significance of transparency in addressing this critical issue.
