PM Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan noticed a deliberate delay in tax cases and ordered the suspension of the Commissioner Inland Revenue Islamabad and other relevant officials on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister also instructed for the suspension of all relevant officials and called for an inquiry against them, according to a press release from the PM Office Media Wing.
Upon taking office, the Prime Minister immediately called for reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and decided to oversee the process personally.
There are numerous cases worth billions of rupees related to government revenues pending in Tax Tribunals. The Prime Minister requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to expedite the resolution of such cases.
Recently, the Prime Minister took notice of a pending case where an FBR counsel had requested an adjournment and directed authorities to investigate the matter.
The Prime Minister noted that the national treasury was suffering due to the backlog of such cases involving billions of rupees in tax matters.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that he would not tolerate any delays in handling these legal matters and pledged to continue monitoring tax reforms as part of his commitment to the nation.
“To increase revenues and protect the country’s finances, everyone must work tirelessly day and night,” the press release quoted the Prime Minister as saying.
