PTI workers hold protest outside IMF’s Washington headquarters
WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: The government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is currently engaged in discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to secure the final portion of the $3 billion Standby Arrangement (SBA). Simultaneously, members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a protest outside the IMF headquarters in Washington, alleging election fraud during the February 8 polls, as reported by The News on Saturday.
The demonstration, organized by First Pakistan Global and attended by PTI founder Imran Khan’s former chief of staff Shehbaz Gill and PTI spokesperson in the United States, Sajjad Burki, claimed that the PTI’s National Assembly seats were reduced from 180 to 90 in the general elections.
Speakers at the protest emphasized that the PTI was not opposed to the IMF assisting Pakistan, but rather desired the IMF to collaborate with elected officials to ensure responsible utilization of the funds by the government.
