Aitzaz petitions SC to form commission to probe IHC judges’ letter
In Lahore, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court Registry requesting the establishment of a commission comprised of three serving judges to investigate a recent letter penned by six judges of the Islamabad High Court.
The petition was submitted by esteemed lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan in the Supreme Court, with the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Defence named as respondents.
The focus of the petition is on a letter written by six judges of the Islamabad High Court on March 25, expressing concerns about potential intimidation by secret agencies.
Additionally, the petition references revelations made by Justice (retd) Shaukat Siddiqui, indicating that secret agencies may be exerting undue influence on judicial decisions.
The primary objective of the petition is to identify individuals within secret agencies involved in illegal activities and to urge the federal government to dismiss any agency officials engaged in such unlawful behavior.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa has taken suo moto notice of the letter from the six judges and has assembled a seven-member bench to address the issue of alleged interference in the judiciary.
