PM Shehbaz orders investigation on wheat import scandal

PM Shehbaz Sharif postpones foreign trip amid political uncertainty

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a thorough investigation into the wheat import scandal by the caretaker government. This decision has caused a crisis in the country, forcing farmers to sell their produce at lower prices.

Despite the upcoming wheat harvest and sufficient stocks in Pakistan, especially in Punjab, the caretaker government allowed grain imports.

Cabinet Secretary Kamran Ali Agha, leading the second inquiry committee, was directed by Shehbaz to determine responsibility clearly and submit the report by Monday.

The prime minister instructed the federal secretary to utilize available records and documents and provide recommendations.

Meanwhile, a committee meeting is being held on a Saturday, a weekly holiday, to review a report from an earlier panel investigating the scandal.

At the same time, the PML-N is gathering at their Model Town headquarters in Lahore to discuss a strategy for addressing the wheat procurement crisis.
